The Course Design
The University Teaching Course for Doctoral Students is offered to PhD students at Wilfrid Laurier University has been designed with the goal of providing participants with the foundations needed to become skilled, thoughtful, and confident teachers in higher education. This includes gaining an understanding and reflecting on learner and teacher issues. Click here to review the course outline.
This course uses a hands-on workshop model to introduce participants to a variety of teaching techniques. PhD students from all disciplines are encouraged to enrol in this course. A cross-disciplinary perspective will help to provide a more comprehensive view of the topics being studied.
Upon having completed all the required assignments, as well as having participated in all the in-class activities, you will receive a Certificate of Completion for the course and a notation on your transcript.
The Commitment
Each Class is 3 hours in duration. In total there are 8 workshops (total contact hours: 24). Attendance at all classes is a requirement of the course and a requirement for receiving the certificate.
